College of Liberal Arts and World Languages and Cultures Department to celebrate Day of the Dead

The University of Southern Indiana will celebrate the Day of the Dead at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 1 in the lobby of the Liberal Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

A candle procession ceremony with all participants will take place followed by a speech by Dr. Manuel Apodaca-Valdez, associate professor of Spanish, who will talk about Latino cultural identity and the historical meaning of the altar to the dead for Latin American peoples and Latinos/as in the United States. Event organizers hope to foster awareness about diversity in campus.

The commemoration is organized by Hispanic Student Union Latinos Unidos and Spanish Club and is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and World Languages and Cultures department.
