Mandatory Health Insurance
All international students (F-1 or J-1 visa holders and J-1 dependents) must have adequate health insurance while enrolled at the University of Southern Indiana. The University health insurance program offers comprehensive coverage designed for international students. You will be billed $1,518 for the cost of this program at the beginning of the academic year, for coverage from August to August. Exchange students and other students who will enroll for one semester only can purchase coverage for that period of time ($630 for fall or spring semester).
The USI health insurance coverage may be waived if you already have adequate health insurance. You must provide an insurance certificate or other documentation in English, showing that your health insurance meets the minimum requirements. Please contact Linda Lefler in the Center for International Programs by email or at 812-465-1248 with questions in this regard.

The Student Health Center is open Monday through Friday. Office hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. during the academic year and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the summer.
Call 812-465-1250 for more information during regular hours or 812-450-8063 after hours. It is always a good idea to call for an appointment before you go to the Health Center, but it's not necessary.
Dental cleanings, radiographs and sealants are provided by students of the University of Southern Indiana dental hygiene program at the Dental Clinic. The clinic is open to all members of the public. Services are provided at a low cost. Call 812-464-1706 or visit the website for fees, appointment times and other information.
Finding a Doctor or Hospital in Your Network
There are two hospitals in Evansville: St. Mary's and Deaconess. It is important to check with your insurance provider to see which hospital and which doctors are in your network. If you go to a doctor who is not in your network, you may have to pay a substantial portion of the bill before your health insurance covers the remaining portion. Please email Linda Lefler or call 812-465-1248 if you have any questions regarding health insurance.
If you have Lewer Insurance, you are in the Deaconess network. The health clinic on campus is part of Deaconess Hospital.
Visit the Lewer website to find a doctor or medical facility in your network.
Visiting the Emergency Room
Most insurance companies will charge you more if you go to the hospital emergency room and your problem was not considered an emergency or you were not admitted to the hospital. These are all valid reasons to go to the Emergency Room:
Problems that DO NOT require a visit to the emergency room:
