Activities, Events and Programs

Electronic Newsletter
The GSPN has recently begun producing an electronic newsletter for graduate students during the Fall and Spring semesters. This newsletter features professional networking opportunities, leadership opportunities, University events, information about research funding and grants as well as the achievements of current graduate students, graduate alumni and graduate faculty members. To submit content suggestions, click here.

Open House Networking Mixer
Annually during the Spring semester, the GSPN holds an Open House Networking Mixer for graduate students, prospective graduate students, graduate student alumni, faculty and staff. This event provides a way for students to network with professionals outside of their program and in a variety of different fields of work.

Connect for Success
The GSPN initiated the Connect for Success program in the Spring of 2017. This program connects experienced graduate students with new graduate students. Such a partnership among graduate students will increase networking as well as assist new graduate students in acclimating to their program and the University.

Involvement Opportunities

General Membership
General members attend our monthly meetings and provide input and feedback about GSPN activities. General members may volunteer at any time to be involved with a GSPN event, program or activity. We welcome new ideas and would love to further expand what we are able to offer to graduate students. Contact Lauren Smith at to get involved or for more information.

Communications Committee
The GSPN invites individuals with an interest in communications to serve on our Communications Committee. Members of this committee seek out content relevant to graduate students (leadership opportunities, networking events, University events, job or internship opportunities, etc.), write short blurbs about content pieces, interview graduate students/alumni/faculty who go above and beyond to be featured in short "spotlight" articles, and construct the electronic Graduate Student Newsletter.

Contact Lauren Smith at to get involved or for more information.

Event Planning Committee
The GSPN invites those with an interest in event planning and the promotion of professional development and networking to lead or serve on our Event Planning Committee. Our Spring Open House Networking Mixer is currently our only official event. However, as our committee develops, we would like to expand our event activities.

Contact Lauren Smith at to get involved or for more information.

Connect for Success
The GSPN invites those with an interest in helping connect and pair experienced graduate students with new graduate students to become involved with our Connect for Success program, which is in the early planning stages.

Contact Mpho Mashabe at to get involved or for more information.
