To create her still life, Sara Christensen Blair used an underpainting method that begins with the opposite, or complimentary, colors in order to add depth and richness.
"It is truly the beauty of oil painting because there is always a little bit of transparency and the depth achieved via layers adds to the richness of the color," Christensen Blair says. "I was happily surprised to see daffodils pop up in my yard and couldn't help but cut a few for a still life during this time of isolation."
The painting took more than 40 hours to complete.
