Employee case of COVID-19 confirmed
May 6, 2020
USI has been notified of an employee who has tested positive for COVID-19 and was on the USI campus last Tuesday, April 28. The employee self-reported the positive diagnosis yesterday, Tuesday, May 5.
The employee submitted the appropriate Request Campus Access form and was authorized to visit office space on the third floor of the Orr Center last week. Per current cleaning protocol, the space was cleaned later in the day of the employee's visit. Fortunately, given the remote work guidelines and process for verifying authorized personnel on campus, very few may have come into contact with this building and the affected office space. The University is in the process of contacting the limited number of people who may have been exposed to alert them of the diagnosis.
The timely notification by the employee serves as an important example of doing the right thing to consider others as we adapt to the ongoing safety considerations related to COVID-19 and work to ensure the well-being of the entire campus community. Any employee who makes a trip to campus for critical business, or who works on campus for any amount of time and later becomes sick and tests positive for COVID-19, is asked to immediately contact Amy Miller in Human Resources to report the diagnosis and remain off campus.
