Student Art Show juror to present on career options for art degrees

Jim May, executive director of the Hoosier Salon and the juror for the 48th Annual USI Juried Student Art Show, will present a lecture,  at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 19 in Kleymeyer Hall in the Liberal Arts Center. May's talk, entitled "OK, so what? You got an art degree" and discussing career options for students with degrees in art is free and open to the public.

May is an important figure in arts administration in Indiana. He worked at the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites as curator of fine arts, director of collections and interpretation and as vice president of museum programs. While serving as director of collections, May developed the inaugural exhibits for the new Indiana State Museum that opened in 2002. He has been an instructor at the Herron School of Art at IUPUI and director of the Center for Art, Design and Public Life. May worked for Briljent, LLC in instructional design and training services before returning to art and not-for-profit management when he joined the Hoosier Salon in March 2015.

May grew up in Haubstadt, Indiana and attended Gibson Southern High School. He earned bachelor's degrees in painting and commercial design from the University of Evansville and a master's degree in art history from Indiana University.

The 48th Annual USI Juried Student Art Show will be held in the McCutchan Art Center/Pace Gallery on the USI campus from Sunday, April 1 through Sunday, April 29.
