USI receives national award for career services work with veterans and military

July 14, 2016

The Indiana Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) has selected the University of Southern Indiana as a recipient for the 2016 Seven Seals Award. Recipients of the Seven Seals Award have proven their efforts to support the ESGR national mission.

The recognition applauds the USI's Veteran, Military, and Family Resource Center, Career Services and Internships and entire campus for the career development support it offers to veterans, current military and their family members.

ESGR presented the award to Dr. Linda L. M. Bennett, USI president, on Friday, July 15.

"Identifying employers in the community that appreciate and value the skills that veterans and military can bring to their organization has been a focus at USI," said Joel Matherly, manager of the USI Veteran, Military and Family Resource Center. "This focus allows us to align with the ESGR mission to help our students progress to meet their career goals."

The Seven Seals Award is considered the broadest and most inclusive award given by ESGR and is presented at the discretion of the State Chair or by ESGR senior leadership.

"Today, supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation's Guard and Reserve units," said Steve Williams, ESGR representative. "These offices have reached into the community to ensure the needs of our military are met through partnerships and cooperative efforts."
