USI receives economic development award from Federal Laboratory Consortium

June 2, 2016

The University of Southern Indiana has been awarded the 2016 State and Local Economic Development Award from the Federal Laboratory Consortium for its collaborative work on the Rural Indiana Technology Commercialization Initiative (RITCI). The award recognizes partnerships that spark economic development growth.

Funded by the Indiana Office of Defense Development (IODD), RITCI was launched in 2015 to increase and support the Indiana entrepreneurial ecosystem by the commercialization of Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane Division innovations.

USI shares the FLC 2016 State and Local Economic Development Award with its collaborators: IODD, NSWC Crane Division, Purdue University and Indiana University.

"It has been great to collaborate with IODD, Crane, Purdue and IU in this initiative that now has received national recognition," said Daniela Vidal, director of USI's Opportunity Development. "We look forward to the next phase of RITCI and the benefits it can bring to our region."

The Federal Laboratory Commission is a nationwide network of more than 300 laboratories, agencies and research centers. The organization aims to accelerate the movement of new technology from laboratories to the commercial marketplace.
