New Harmony Gallery hosts couple artists for new exhibit

June 21, 2016

The University of Southern Indiana's New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art is hosting an exhibition, Coupled, through July 22. As part of an ongoing series meant to enhance the artistic community within the region, this show brings together seven artist couples from the Chicago, Fayetteville, Indianapolis, Lexington, Louisville, New York City and St. Louis areas. The works in the show range from traditional mediums like painting and ceramics to video and installation.

A reception for Coupled will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 25 during the Arts and Harmony Festival.

The artist couples featured in the exhibition are: Caroline Bottom Anderson and Daniel Anderson; Steve Armstrong and Diane Kahlo; Tiffany Carbonneau and Brian Harper; Lauren Levato Coyne and Rory Coyne; Valerie Eickmeier and Philip Lamie; Jeannie Hulen and Adam Posnak;  and Tom Kalin and Craig Paull.

"The provided images from Tom Kalin and Craig Paull are video stills from a larger film that was originally presented in New York City," said Garry Holstein, director of the gallery. "Filmmaker, writer and activist, Tom Kalin is known for narrative features, mixed media installations and short experimental films and videos. Craig Paul is producer, key collaborator and actor in the piece, as well as the director of Hearst Magazine's Photo Studios.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and is made possible in part through support from the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art strives to create an accessible atmosphere for the audience to view and discuss contemporary art. It also encourages collaboration by building connections between the regional and national artist communities.

The gallery is a program within USI Outreach and Engagement and is located at 506 Main Street in New Harmony, Indiana. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, contact Garry Holstein at 812-682-3156 or visit USI.edu/nhgallery.
