USI Alumni Association invites USI alumni and friends to Party on The Quad

April 26, 2016

The University of Southern Indiana Alumni Association will host the second annual USI Party on The Quad from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11 on the University's Quad, located in the center of campus. The event is open to USI alumni, employees, retirees, friends and USI students age 21 and older. Tickets are $10, which includes food, live music and activities.

This year, guests will enjoy Marx BBQ along with sides, lemonade, tea or beverages from a cash bar. Both vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available as well, and should be specified during registration.

Activities include a selfie photo booth, caricature portraits, corn hole, photo-ops with Archie the Eagle and tours of campus. The Campus Store also will be open to stock up on USI logo wear. The event is rain or shine. In the case of rain, the event will be held at USI's Physical Activities Center.

"Party on The Quad is a time to reconnect," said Janet Johnson, director of Alumni and Volunteer Services. "Our alumni want to reconnect with faculty and staff they knew from campus, and our students want to connect with alumni. What better way to do this than with a fun activity."

Featured bands this year include Boscoe France, Osiella and The Flatheads.

Boscoe France is a bluesy, slide guitarist and vocalist from Madisonville, Kentucky. He was awarded first prize in the National Guitar Center King of the Blues Challenge. He has opened for blues legend, B.B. King and has played festivals across the United States. His music is a fusion of the blues, rock, country and soul.

Local band, Osiella, incorporates a range of musical inspiration. A blend of folk, rock and African rhythm courtesy of guitarist, Theophilus Akai, hailing originally from West Africa, provides the foundation for singer/songwriter, Cynthia Murray. With influences in gospel, folk, reggae, classical and rock music; the band brings an eclectic sound to audiences across the states.

The Flatheads are comprised of Tim Piazza on mandolin, Mike Rodenberg on bass, and Randy Pease, retired USI instructor of English, on acoustic guitar. Classic rock, Irish music, bluegrass, jazz and country all serve as inspiration to these local favorites.

Those who register before May 11 also will receive a free commemorative T-shirt.
