Admissions Standards

International students on campus

Each applicant is reviewed on an individual basis and evaluated on the following areas:   

Online Application  

  • You should apply as a  freshman  if you have earned a diploma from an accredited high school, but never attended a college or university before (other than ESL). 

  • You should apply as a  transfer  student if you are currently attending or have previously attended a college or university in any country before enrolling at USI.

  • Intensive English Program (IEP)

    • If you are interested in earning a bachelor's degree after completing IEP, please select the undergraduate "degree-seeking" application.

    • If you are interested in studying in IEP only, and do not wish to earn a bachelor's degree, please select the "non-degree" application.

Official Academic Records 

  • Official Document- This is a document issued by the authorized institution that bears that institution seal and signature of the registrar or other authorized official. Official Documents must be in a sealed envelope that is signed or stamped across the back flap by an appropriate official.  

  • Document Translations- If your academic documents are not issued in English, precises and word-for-word translations are required.

  • Academic Transcript- This is an official document issued by the institution you attended that lists all subjects taken and grades earned each year of study.

  • Proof of graduation- Once you have completed your studies this can include an official Graduation Certificate/Diploma or Examination Results. 

GPA Requirement 

  • Freshman: USI prefers a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4 point scale.
  • Transfer: USI reviews transfer students based on their academic success thus far.  

English Proficiency 

English Proficiency results must be sent to USI directly from the testing agency.

For t
ransfer applicants from a U.S. college or university, the English proficiency requirement can be satisfied by 24 or more transferable credit hours from an accredited institution AND completion of the equivalent to USI's Core 39 English requirement (ENG 101 and ENG 102) with a C grade or higher. TOEFL Code 1335.

SAT or ACT Scores

If English is your native language and you are under the age of 22 years old, SAT or ACT scores are required. USI's SAT school code is 1335 and ACT code is 1207. 

SAT/ACT results must be sent to USI directly from the testing agency.
