Indianapolis native Mary Lyon Taylor began producing pictorial photography in 1906, at the age of 35. A year later, she was the subject of a feature article in Craftsman, a national magazine devoted to the American Arts and Crafts movement. Taylor is known for her soft-focus portraits of women and children, but her subjects also included domestic workers and landscapes. This traveling exhibit includes Lyons photographs and original glass plate negatives preserved by the Indiana Historical Society.

Hardy Lake Raptor Rehab Center will bring several of their birds for visitors to see up-close. Telescopes will be set up to observe birds in their native habitat. Lawrence County History Festival and Pow WowApril 20-21 @ Bedford North Lawrence High School, Bedford | 800/798-0769 | www.lawrencecountyhistoryfestival.com The Festival consists of a Native American Powwow and a historical timeline. The timeline consists of civilian demonstrations as well as military drills and skirmishes that range from the Revolutionary War through World War II. In addition, there are sutlers and vendors offering for sale a variety of items such as Native American jewelry, handcrafted items, supplies for military and civilian re-enactors, toys, and more. Food is offered for sale at the festival as well.
Brownstown/Ewing Artsfest & Indiana's Historic Pathways VolksmarchApril 27 @ Brownstown | 812/358-2199. | www.brownstownewingmainstreet.org 10:00 am-5:00 pm in Brownstown and Ewing followed by a 7:30 p.m. performance of "Catfish Moon," a comedy drama at Jackson County Community Theater (JCCT). Beginning at 10:00 a.m. will be an Indiana Historic Pathways Volkswalk, a non-competitive 5k and 10k walk. The Volkswalk is being sponsored by the Bloomington Walking Club. 5k walkers will leave Ewing, head out brickyard road turning right at the Parke Vehslage farm and continue to the History Center. 10k walkers will continue through the fairgrounds, back into town past JCCT and the middle school ending back at Ewing. Walkers will make 8 stops along the way at various spots where a guide will explain the history of each.
