Career Mentor Program
As part of our professional development initiative, we match participating students with a USI alum in their field of study. The activities for mentors and their students may include job shadowing, professional group meetings, introductions to other professionals in a career field, assistance with preparing resumes, mock interviews, as well as being exposed to the day to day operations/projects. Students gain insight into their field of study while building networks, asking questions and listening carefully to those who were once in their shoes. Recommended for juniors and seniors but open to all students.
Day on the Job
Professionals host a student with whom they have been matched for a day or half day on the job. Students gain valuable career information and expand their career network by observing professionals on the job. For students who are undecided on what career path to take, or perhaps wavering between a few, this opportunity will enable you to explore and inquire with someone currently in one of those fields. It is a great forum for you to ask questions that will help you make decisions for your future. Recommended for freshmen and sophomores but open to all students.
A kickoff reception has been scheduled for Thursday, January 14 at 6 p.m. in Traditions Lounge on the USI campus. Closer to the event date, more details will be provided. The purpose of this reception is to introduce each mentor to the student with whom they’ve been matched as well as present an overview of the program. Following the kickoff reception, it is the student's responsibility to follow up and confirm scheduled appointments with their Career Mentor or Day on the Job host to ensure a successful experience.
